Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Sri Lanka

Arrive at Colombo International Airport, where a private Voyagetimes transfer will be waiting to take you to your hotel in Negombo. After settling in, relax by the pool and ease into Sri Lankan life.

In the evening, meet your Voyagetimes Expedition Leader and fellow explorers for welcome drinks and dinner—the perfect start to the adventure ahead.

Day 2

From Negombo to the Cultural Heart of Sigiriya

We leave the coast behind in the morning and travel inland with your guide, watching Sri Lanka shift from shoreline to countryside over a 3-hour journey.

At Dambulla Cave Temple, step into a centuries-old world of rock-carved shrines and golden statues—quiet, sacred, and deeply atmospheric. Please dress respectfully with covered shoulders and knees.

From there, we continue to Sigiriya, where the day slows down into something more immersive. Drift across a village lake by boat, pass through rural paths by traditional cart, and get a glimpse of everyday life unfolding.

Day 3

Ancient Heights & Wild Encounters

Rise early for a climb into history at Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks. The ascent—around 1,200 steps—winds through ancient frescoes, stone pathways, and dramatic views, taking roughly 1.5–2 hours depending on pace.

In the afternoon, the adventure shifts from stone to wilderness. Head into Minneriya National Park for a jeep safari, where open landscapes and golden light set the stage for encounters with wild Asian elephants roaming freely in their natural habitat.

Day 4

Into the Cultural Heart of Kandy

We set off in the morning toward Kandy, a scenic journey into Sri Lanka’s cultural heart, with a stop along the way at a fragrant spice garden.

On arrival, wander through the lush landscapes of Peradeniya Botanical Garden, where towering palms and tropical flora stretch across one of the country’s oldest and most beautiful green spaces.

Later, experience a traditional Kandyan dance performance—rhythmic, vibrant, and deeply rooted in local heritage.

As the day unfolds, we visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth (Dalada Maligawa), one of Buddhism’s most important pilgrimage sites, where history and spirituality come together in the heart of the city.

Day 5

Ascending to Tea Country

We leave Kandy early and ascend into Sri Lanka’s highlands, where the air turns cooler and the landscapes shift into rolling green hills and mist.

En route, we pause at Ramboda Falls, one of the country’s tallest cascades, where water thunders down through dense mountain forest.

By the time we reach Nuwara Eliya, the rhythm slows again. Walk through endless tea plantations and step inside a working tea factory to see how the region’s world-famous tea is crafted from leaf to cup.

Day 6

The Scenic Train to Ella

This morning, we board the scenic train from Nanu Oya to Ella—an unforgettable ride through Sri Lanka’s hill country. Watch the world drift by as tea-covered slopes, misty valleys, and endless green landscapes unfold outside your window.

Arriving in Ella, we head straight into the hills to explore the iconic Nine Arches Bridge. Framed by dense jungle and rolling greenery, this colonial-era landmark feels almost hidden in the landscape—a striking spot where time slows down, trains occasionally pass overhead, and the mountains stretch out in every direction.

Day 7

Above the Green Valleys

We start the morning on foot, climbing the gentle trails of Little Adam’s Peak. With every step, Ella opens up below—layered hills, endless green, and crisp mountain air.

Later, we slow down at Ravana Pool Club, a hillside retreat overlooking the valleys, where the day drifts into swimming, relaxing, and taking in the views.

For a bit more thrill, the hills are yours to explore: swing above the valley on the Ravana Swing, or soar across the landscape on the Flying Ravana zip-line—an adrenaline rush framed by one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic backdrops.

Day 8

From Mountain Pools to the Wild Edge of Yala

We leave Ella early and head into Sri Lanka’s wilder south, stopping at Diyaluma Falls along the way. Here, water cascades through layered rock into natural infinity pools above the valley.

From the highlands, we continue toward Yala, where the landscape opens into vast plains and untamed wilderness. We arrive in the afternoon and settle into camp, with time to unwind before tomorrow’s safari.

The evening is quiet—spent on the edge of the wild, in anticipation of what lies ahead in Sri Lanka’s most iconic national park.

Day 9

Safari Mornings, Ocean Evenings

We start early as the park slowly comes to life. At sunrise, we head into Yala National Park on a 4x4 safari, moving through raw landscapes in search of wildlife in its natural rhythm—elephants, sloth bears, and, if we’re lucky, the elusive leopard.

After the safari, we leave the wild behind and follow the southern coast. A scenic drive takes us through Tangalle’s quiet beaches before arriving in Mirissa, where the pace softens into laid-back coastal life and golden shores.

Day 10

A Free Day in Mirissa

A slow coastal day in Mirissa, moving at your own rhythm—whether that’s time on the beach, a wander through laid-back streets, or simply staying present by the ocean.

For early risers, there’s the option of a sunrise dolphin-watching boat trip. Out on the Indian Ocean, the horizon opens and dolphins often glide through the waves around you—a quiet, unforgettable start to the day.

By late afternoon, we gather at Coconut Hill, where palms frame the coastline and the light begins to soften. As the sun sets, Mirissa turns golden—an effortless, cinematic close to the day.

Day 11

The Final Journey Along the Coast

We begin along Sri Lanka’s southern coast at Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site where colonial architecture meets ocean air in a timeless setting.

From here, we continue inland for a Madu River safari, drifting through mangroves and small island communities—a calm contrast to the coast.

By afternoon, we pause in Bentota for a final seaside meal together as the journey starts to settle into memory.

In the evening, we drive back toward Negombo for your final night.

Day 12

Departure from Sri Lanka

This morning marks the end of your expedition. After an unforgettable journey together, it’s time to say goodbye to your group and guide—sharing final moments with people who began as strangers and leave as friends.

Your group leader will arrange a local taxi based on your flight schedule, ensuring a smooth, stress-free transfer to the airport—just a short drive from your accommodation.

On your way home, the journey naturally slows down. You leave with more than photos or memories—carrying the shared energy of the group, a richness of new experiences, and a quieter kind of clarity that comes from stepping out of your routine and into something real.
